Water rising in a drain right now

Emergency drain cleaning in Shafter, CA means a licensed plumber clears a blocked sink, tub, shower, laundry standpipe or floor drain with a cable machine or a jetter. Our dispatcher answers the line 24/7. While you wait, stop running water into the blocked fixture and keep kids and pets away from any overflow on the floor.

Skip the bottle of lye or acid cleaner. It sits on top of a standing clog, heats the pipe, and can burn the person who later opens the trap. A cup plunger on a sink or tub is fine, and a bucket under the P-trap catches what comes out if you loosen the slip nuts. Call (855) 575-2890 and tell the dispatcher which drains are slow.

Same-day appointments are available when the schedule allows. Calls that come in overnight or on a weekend reach the same dispatcher, and the plumber brings cable machines sized for sinks and for larger lines.

Bathroom, laundry, tub or floor drain, where the water sits matters

The fixture that is stuck points to where in the pipe the stoppage lives.

Bathroom sink

Hair, toothpaste and soap collect in the pop-up stopper and the P-trap. Most of these clogs sit within a few feet of the drain, so a trap cleaning or a small cable fixes them.

Tub or shower

Hair wraps around the drain crossbar or the stopper linkage. If the tub and the shower both drain slowly, the clog is past the tub trap on the branch line.

Laundry standpipe

Lint and soap residue narrow a 2 inch standpipe, and a washer pumps hard enough to shoot water out of the top. Stop the washer mid-cycle if the pipe fills.

Floor drain

Garage and basement floor drains collect silt, lint and grease. A gurgling or smelly one gets a cable with a small head, and a camera shows whether it joins the main line.

Why the kitchen sink is the stubborn one

Kitchen lines take cooking fat, food scraps and soap, and they cool into a waxy lining inside a 1 1/2 inch pipe. Water slows for weeks before it stops. A double basin that drains one side faster than the other usually has the blockage at the tee below the sink.

If a disposal sits under the sink, we check whether the clog is in the disposal, the tailpiece or the wall line. A jammed or leaking grinder is a repair job of its own, and the garbage disposal repair page explains it.

A dishwasher that drains into the disposal or the tailpiece can back up into its own tub when the line is blocked. We cable from the trap arm or a wall cleanout, then fill the sink and let it run to test the line.

Cable, jet or camera, which one clears which clog

Pick the tool by the stoppage, not by habit.

Which tool fits which kind of drain clog
SituationTool we reach forHonest limit

Clog returns within weeksCamera first, then cable or jetA camera shows the cause but does not clear it

Grease and scale respond better to water than to a cable. Read how hydro jetting compares before you choose for a line that keeps filling.

How a drain snake works, from trap arm to wall

A drain snake is a cable on a drum, run by a motor or a hand crank. The plumber feeds it through a cleanout, a pulled trap or a removed toilet, then spins it as it advances until the head bites the blockage. A spiral head grabs hair, an arrowhead cuts soft roots, and a retrieving head hooks objects.

Cabling has limits. It can bore a hole through a thick clog, and the water may drain while a ring of debris stays on the pipe wall. We run water for several minutes after cabling, because a drain that empties once is not the same as a drain that is clear.

When the cable stops at the same spot twice, or comes back with sand or flakes of cast iron, we stop pushing and pull a camera. Forcing a cable against a broken pipe makes the break worse.

When the whole house drains slowly

Slow drains at the sink, tub and toilet together point downstream, past all the branch lines. The lowest fixture, often a shower or a floor drain, backs up first because wastewater takes the lowest opening. That pattern is a main line stoppage, and it needs a larger machine through the cleanout. Our sewer line cleaning service covers it.

A drain line leak is a separate case. Damp drywall, a stained ceiling under a bathroom or soil that stays soggy beside the slab means water is escaping from a pipe. Cleaning will not fix that, so a camera and a leak test come first, and leak detection finds the hole.

We also take drain calls from Wasco, roughly 10 miles up State Route 43. Give the dispatcher your town and a cross street when you call.

Slow again after plunging, or clogged again in a month

A plunger moves a soft clog a few inches. If the drain runs for a day and slows again, the clog was shifted into a wider spot, not removed. Repeated plunging can also pack debris tighter against the trap arm.

A drain that keeps returning usually has a cause. A bellied section holds water, a rough joint snags hair, a blocked vent makes the line gurgle, or roots have entered a cracked pipe. A sewer camera shows which one, and the sewer camera inspection page explains what the recording tells you.

What changes the price of a drain job

We quote a clear price by phone and again on site before work starts. These factors move it.

  • Access. A drain with a cleanout is quicker than one where the plumber must pull a trap or a toilet.
  • Line size and length. A 1 1/2 inch sink line is a smaller job than a 4 inch branch with a long run.
  • Type of clog. Hair is quick, while grease, scale and roots need more time and heavier tools.
  • Tool needed. A cable, a jet and a camera each bring different equipment to the job.
  • Hour of the call. Overnight and weekend visits cost more than a scheduled weekday visit.
  • Repeat trouble. A drain with a belly or a broken joint may need a camera and a repair, not another cleaning.

Standard homeowner insurance usually covers sudden damage and not wear or a gradual clog, so check your policy. Call the dispatcher for the real number on your drain.

Drain cleaning questions from Shafter homeowners

Do you handle drain cleaning emergencies at night or on weekends in Shafter?

Yes. The dispatch line runs 24/7, including overnight and weekends, and same-day appointments are available when the schedule allows.

Tell the dispatcher what is backing up and whether water is still coming up. That decides how fast we send a plumber.

Is it safe to use a chemical drain cleaner while I wait?

No. Chemical cleaners sit on a standing clog and do not reach it. They heat the pipe and can burn skin or eyes when the trap is opened.

A plain cup plunger on a sink or tub is fine. Tell the plumber if you already poured something in, so the right gloves and goggles go on.

My drain is slow again after plunging. Why?

The plunger usually moves the clog a short way and does not break it up. It can also pack debris tighter in a bend.

A cable pulls or cuts the clog out. If the drain slows again within weeks, a camera can show a belly, a snag or roots that explain it.

Why does my bathtub fill to the overflow plate?

Water in the overflow means the tub trap or the line below it is blocked, or the stopper linkage is dragging. Hair on the drain crossbar is the usual culprit.

If a tub and a nearby shower both drain slowly, the clog is on the shared branch line.

Can you clear a floor drain in a garage or basement?

Yes. Floor drains collect silt, lint and grease and often smell when they dry out. We cable them with a small head and check where they join the main line.

A floor drain that overflows during laundry often shares the main with other fixtures.

What affects the cost of drain cleaning?

Access, line size, the type of clog, the tool needed and the hour of the call all matter. A cleanout makes the job quicker than a pulled trap.

Call for the clear price before work starts. If the drain keeps clogging, a camera visit shows whether cleaning or a repair makes sense.
