Who answers when you call

Shafter Express Plumbing is a 24/7 plumbing dispatch line based at 1160 Lerdo Hwy, Shafter, CA 93263. When you call, you reach our dispatcher, who listens to the problem and sends a licensed plumber to your address.

We do not name individual plumbers on this site, and there is no owner profile to read. What you can check is the work itself, the price before it starts and the plumber's license, and the sections below explain each one.

What happens from the first ring to the finished job

The process is the same for a burst pipe at midnight and a dripping faucet on Tuesday afternoon, only the urgency changes.

  1. You call the lineThe dispatcher answers at any hour, including weekends and holidays, and asks for your address and the nearest cross street.
  2. We sort the problemA few questions about what you see, hear and smell tell the dispatcher whether this is an emergency or can wait for a same-day appointment when available.
  3. You get safety stepsIf water is running or sewage is rising, the dispatcher tells you which valve to close and what to stop using while you wait.
  4. A licensed plumber is sentThe plumber who comes out checks the cause with the right tool, such as a sewer camera, a pressure gauge or a drum auger.
  5. You hear the price firstA clear price is given before work starts, so you can say yes or no before any parts are installed.

What we handle and what we leave alone

Our plumbing services cover drains, water heaters, leaks, sewer lines, fixtures, repiping and similar work. For a clog, drain cleaning is the usual start, and a failed tank is handled through water heater replacement.

Some work is outside what we do. We do not offer electrical, HVAC or roofing, and we do not repair pool equipment. Gas line work is not a page on this site, so a gas smell is handled as a safety event instead of a service call.

Water softeners are another case where we are careful. Advice on softening or filtration depends on a water test, since no verified hardness figure exists for Shafter. Ask the City of Shafter utilities for its annual water quality report, or test your tap, before buying any equipment.

Why we start with a phone conversation

Plumbing problems rarely look the same from the outside. A wet ceiling can come from a pinhole in a supply line, a failed shower pan or a drain that overflowed upstairs. A short conversation with the dispatcher narrows the list before anyone drives out.

That conversation also protects you from the wrong visit. If a stuck valve is the real issue, there is no reason to send a sewer machine. If the symptom points to a main line, the plumber brings a cable machine and a camera instead of a hand snake.

Callers sometimes ask us to promise an arrival time. We do not, because traffic, distance and other emergencies change from hour to hour. What we can say is that the line is staffed at all times and that same-day appointments are offered when available.

How pricing is decided

We do not publish a price list, because plumbing cost depends on conditions that cannot be seen from the phone. Access to the pipe, the length of line involved, the parts needed and the hour of the call all change the number.

A good price conversation also covers repair against replacement. A water heater with a bad element may only need a part, while a tank leaking at the base is finished. We explain both options and say plainly when the cheaper fix will not last.

What we do commit to is a clear price before work starts. Standard homeowner insurance usually covers sudden damage and not wear, so check your policy before assuming a claim. For a real number, call the line and describe the job.

Check any plumber's license yourself

The Contractors State License Board (CSLB) licenses California contractors, and C-36 is the Plumbing Contractor classification. The Check A License page on cslb.ca.gov lets anyone look up a contractor, ours or anyone else's.

Doing this takes two minutes and works for every plumber you consider. We say licensed and insured about our plumbers, and a lookup is how you confirm that for yourself.

Where the plumbers travel

Home base is Shafter, ZIP 93263, which is the only ZIP the dispatch line itself counts as covered. Wasco, ZIP 93280, is roughly 10 miles up State Route 43, and McFarland, ZIP 93250, is roughly 15 miles away. Details live on our Wasco page and our McFarland page, and the service areas page covers calls from farther out.

Those distances are estimates. Calls from outside the three towns are handled case by case, with no promise about timing.

What to have ready when you call

A little preparation shortens the call and helps the plumber bring the right parts.

  • The address and the nearest cross street or named locality.
  • What you see or hear, such as water on the floor, gurgling, a hum from the heater or a drip at the meter.
  • Where the main water shutoff is, and whether you have closed it.
  • Whether the problem affects one fixture or the whole house.
  • A safe way for the plumber to reach the area, such as an open gate or a cleared closet.

Safety comes before service

If you smell gas, leave the area immediately. From a safe place, SoCalGas customers can call SoCalGas at 1-800-427-2200, and anyone should call 911 if the leak could endanger people or if SoCalGas cannot be reached.

For water emergencies, close the main valve, keep people away from wet outlets and call the 24/7 line. Call (855) 575-2890 and the dispatcher will take it from there.
